Any Idea's?

So Mais has had the runs (sorry for too much info) for three days now and it is constant so what does that =? HORRIBLE diaper rash. I have seriously never seen anything like it. Her poor bum is so bloody and it continues to get worse. I have caked on the desitine and I have also tried perscription diaper cream and nothing is helping. So I'm wondering if anyone has any tricks up their sleeve on how to help her poor bum out? I swear nothing works because she is constantly needing a diaper change and all the wiping and the runs make it impossible to heal. Sorry if this is too gross, I just am so desperate.

That is so not fun! I've been through it with both of my kids, though. My doctor told me to put them on the BRAT's diet, which is bananas, rice or rice cereal, apples or applesauce, and toast. Those are foods that supposedly help stop or at least slow down the runs.

I always use Beaudreau's Butt paste (gotta love the name) on the diaper rashes. Something else that might help is after wiping her bum, let it air dry. Just a few tricks that have helped me. It's so sad though when they are in pain like that and you can't help. Good luck!

Kels- first of all- give her time without a diaper- I know it's risky but it will help. You can also hold the blow dryer (on cool setting) on her bum for a little bit. Next- go to the store and buy some cream called TRIPLE PASTE. It works wonders- we used it on the babies in the NICU all the time. Also- if you can- don't use regular wipes, use cotton cloths with warm water rather than wipes (the wipes have stuff in them that sting really bad (especially if there are open sores). I hope this helps. Email me if you need more tips.

Gage is going on 4 weeks of the runs we've been to the doctor twice had labs done at McKay Dee Hospital everything came back negative.
We're not sure what's wrong with him his dr. is out of town until the end of the month.
His bum has been really raw a few time to.
I've been using Bag Balm Jer got it at walmart & said it was in the pet part it's in a green tin & it's been working really well.

Also Jer's sister works in the NICU at Jordan Valley & she said if it gets really bad that they mix a little malox (? spelling) in the ointment & put it on there little bums and it pulls the acid out.

Also try not using wipes they have irritants in them that will burn the skin so I use those round cotton pads that you clean your face with & remove makeup (they're flat & round) & a spray bottle filled with water to wet them & wipe Gage's bum with that it's not so harsh.

I hope this helps a little anyways.
Love Ya

Don't put ointment on the rash, only to the skin surrounding to protect it from getting a rash. Change her diaper often, up to 10 times a day. Don't use wipes, use a warm soft cloth (wash cloth after in hot water and white vinegar). Give her a bath a couple of times a day in 2-3 Tbsp. of baking soda. If you can let her be without a diaper at any time, do it. And finally, cornstartch in the diaper will help keep the acidity away. Good luck, hon.

Hey, Marie D. had the best advice on that the other day. It was the topic of convo in the mother's lounge. I think she said baby powder and I like butt paste and or vaseline. Also, I have a special recipe for wipes that clean but don't hurt their bums-let me know if you want it. Sorry she's owwie. Hope she feels better soon.

Ok, I have heard that when they are pooping that much, try to use a damp paper towel or wet toilet paper to wipe her bum. The alcohol in the wipes makes it worse, especially if she is bleeding. I'm sorry... good luck. Poor thing :( Yeah, I found a car seat. He is much happier facing forward. WE STILL need to play before summer is over! UGH!

Sorry to drop in on your blog, but I'm promise I'm not some weirdo! My little one had the same thing about a month ago, where she had the runs, and her rash was bloody and raw and it wouldn't heal. When I took her to the doctor he said it had become a yeast infection probably from the poop getting into it. Might want to get it looked at....a good thing he had me do was after a bath, put her on some towels, one that you don't mind them getting pooped on, and let her air out for like 15 mins twice a day, it helps! Good luck!

Hey, this is actually Marie. I just wanted to tell you that we used anti-fungal cream (just the generic brand from Wal-Mart) on Livvy's bad rashes when she was a baby. We also realized that baby powder, or cornstarch, like your friend said above, is great for soaking up moisture. The moisture is what causes the rashes. Now, with Allison, we have put powder on her during every changing and she has never had a hint of diaper rash in all her five months. Best of luck!

McKenzie also had a bad rash and we were told to put powder on the rash instead of the ointment. The powder absorbs the moisture down there, which is worse this time of year because of the heat.
